Oscar Toney Jr
Loving You Too Long shout40
Oscar Toney Jr scored a major crossover R&B and pop hit with his version of the classic soul ballad "For Your Precious Love" in 1967. He toured the UK frequently after his hit, and signed with Contempo in 1973, who also published the renowned magazine Blues & Soul, to record a notable LP of great soul ballads. These tracks were described by reviewer Alan Lewis as "Possibly the best deep-soul recordings ever made in London" in Black Music magazine of August 1975.The album is presented here on CD for the first time with the added bonus of alternate mixes as issued on a single and a supplementary track not included on the original LP. These tracks have only been available on rare vinyl for three decades, and have been the subject of many enquiries by collectors since the re-issue of Oscar Toney's hits from Bell, and a previous Shout CD of his recent music on BGR (Shout 30 - Guilty - A Southern Soul Revival).

Guilty shout30
Oscar Toney Jr was a down-on-his-knees preaching soul singer in the 'golden years', and scored a notable crossover pop and R&B hit with For Your Precious Love on Bell in 1967, one of the first records to use a spoken 'rap' intro. This deep-soul revival of the Impressions doo-wop hit was a landmark in "southern soul", and gained Oscar written praise from the great Otis Redding. Oscar also recorded for Phil Walden's Capricorn label and for Contempo in the UK during the 1970's, then returned to his gospel roots in the 1980's before coming 'back to soul' in year 2000 with this fine album of new songs recorded in Atlanta, Georgia. Guilty , produced by Bob Grady, represents a return to the values of real soul with real musiciansbut only had limited distribution when released in the USA, and this Shout release provides the opportunity to bring quality new soul material to the widest audience. Toney Jr still plays live dates in the USA, booked out by Rodgers Redding, and helps keep the real soul flame flickering. He recently had his Bell recordings reissued by Rev-Ola. One of the Legendary Classic Soul names. First time world wide release. A contemporary album of Real Soul. Toney Jr still an active perfomer. Back catalogue already in the racks
