Around Christmastime 1968, in the central Illinois prairie town of Pekin, a tiny independent record label was born. Its proprietor Chuck Perrin christened it Webster's Last Word and released the bewitching collection offolky recordings contained herein, in the form of two privately pressed LPs.That interesting but sparse description can in no way prepare you for the music of brother/sister duo Chuck and Mary. An ethereal, eerie, spooky sound seemingly from another world with a startlingly contemporary atmosphere, many people who've heard this are convinced it's a new band! Almost the definition of 'weird folk", the sound of Chuck and Mary will captivate you as it did their audiences then, including future Nirvana engineer Andy Wallace (who played bass on these recordings) and Karen Carpenter, whose heartfelt fan letters Chuck still treasures! |

In the wake of the radio success of our first collection of the wonderful music of Chuck & Mary Perrin, Rev-Ola proudly presents "Life Is A Stream", an expanded edition of their superb and fabulously rare third album. Featuring the unique intimate vocal style of Chuck and Mary in a new setting of expanded instrumentation in contrast to the exquisite minimalism of their other recordings.Briefly, in 1971, after having toured the circuit incessantly to mounting success, Chuck and Mary ran into their friend Irving Azoff, even then a budding super-manager. He set them up with legendary Chicago promo man Peter Wright (whose credits in Chicago Pop and Soul need no restating here!). Peter had started two new labels, Twilight for blues and soul, and Sunlight for pop and rock. Chuck and Mary were to follow Chicago garage-pop legends The New Colony Six as Sunlight recording artistes. Azoff, with typical flamboyance, flew the duo in his private plane to hook up with Peter at the state of the art RCA studios in Chicago where with backing from The New Colony Six they laid down the beautiful selections for "Life Is A Stream". Celebrated arranger Hoyt Jones was brought in to direct members of the Chicago Symphony orchestra on his groundbreaking charts and a classic album was born. Here it is again, intensified, beautifully remastered, with additional material, exclusive pictures in the lavish package and extensive notes by Keith D'Arcy and Chuck Perrin himself....quite frankly a beautiful album no one should be without!
