Shop Assistants
Shop Assistants aka Will Anything Happen
CDMRED374
Released 20/10/08. The Shop Assistants were one of the defining bands of the 80s independent boom. Formed in Edinburgh in 1984, originally as Buba & The Shop Assistants, they released the Peel-approved Indie staple ‘Something To Do’, which featured Stephen Pastel on backing vocals. With line-up changes and an abbreviated name, they released the ‘Shopping Parade’ EP a year later, which saw Morrissey describe ‘All Day Long’ (included on this collection) as his favourite track of the year.

The band’s David Keegan (who would subsequently join the Pastels) then formed 53rd & 3rd Records, which housed the band’s ‘Safety Net’, one of two songs, along with ‘I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You’ (again, included here) to be voted part of John Peel’s Festive Fifty of 1986. The Shop Assistants, aka Will Anything Happen, is their sole album release, and is accompanied here by two bonus tracks; ‘Looking Back’ and the ‘slow version’ of ‘All Day Long’. Although reissued in 2001, it has long been out of print, fetching scary prices on a well known auction site in acknowledgement of its status as one of the indispensable articles of the C86/shambling/independent scene.

Jeanne Moreau
The Immortal
ACMEM156CD
Released 20/10/08. If there was a single actor who captured the very essence of the French New Wave, it was Jeanne Moreau. In Truffaut's groundbreaking Jules et Jim she achieved global recognition, giving a performance of spellbinding intensity as the mercurial Catherine, who becomes tragically entwined in the lives of two friends who both love her. During the film, she was required to perform the song, Tourbillon de La Vie (Whirlpool of Life), which Truffaut felt encapsulated the spirit of his masterpiece. Her recording went on to become a massive radio hit and prompted the idea of recording a full LP under the auspices of producer Jacques Canetti.

The award-winning albums that transpired in 1963 and 1966 comprise this edition and feature songs written by Cyrus Bassiak (Serge Rezvani). The debut in collaboration with George Delerue and the legendary Ward Swingle, its elaborate orchestrations giving way on the sequel to more intimate and sensuous settings with guitar and bass. A Jules & Jim apart, cinematic highlight include Chimes at Midnight and The Immortal Story for Orson Welles; Diary of a Chambermaid (Luis Bunuel) and for Louis Malle The Lift to The Scaffold and Viva Maria in which she co-starred with Brigitte Bardot Jeanne Moreau is global in her appeal.

Edith Sitwell / William Walton / Lord Berners
Follies & Facades
ACMEM157CD
Released 20/10/08. Edith Sitwell and Lord Berners did more than most to dispel the nationalistic insularity that dominated so much English literature and music in the decade that followed the First World War. The work that brought the Sitwells their greatest fame - and notoriety - was Façade, an entertainment that combined Edith’s idiosyncratic verse with the music of the young William Walton. With Cocteau’s Parade the obvious precedent, the family delighted in creating “a first-class scandal in literature and music”. Here, the 1929 premiere recording with Constant Lambert appears alongside that made in 1954 with Peter Pears; by all accounts, the only performances of which Edith really approved. “Façade” owed its existence to the support and encouragement of, among others, Lord Berners.

Considered by Stravinsky to be the most gifted composer of his generation, Berners was famously eccentric (A fine biography ‘Lord Berners-The Last Eccentric’ by Mark Amory was recently published), a diplomat, an accomplished writer, painter, composer and missionary of the arts. As with the Sitwell’s, his idealism, openness to new ideas and willingness to embrace humour made for a peculiarly British avant-garde. The Berners piece featured in this edition is one of his most widely regarded; the suite from the ballet The Triumph of Neptune which was commissioned by Serge Diagilev in 1926.

Vincent Price
Master of the macabre
ACMEM158CD
Released 20/10/08. Vincent Price, art historian and collector, gourmet cook, author and raconteur, perhaps best known for his blood-curdling acting roles in Roger Corman’s series of films based on Edgar Allan Poe stories for American International Pictures during the sixties; House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum, Tales of Terror, The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death and The Tomb of Ligeia.

A horror legend, other notable Price performances include in Michael Reeves’ Witchfinder General, as ‘egghead’ in the Batman TV series, the English production Theatre of Blood with Diana Rigg and Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands. He did a voiceover on Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare” album and performed a sinister rap on the title track of Michael Jackson’s top-selling “Thriller”.
Price’s greatest asset throughout his career was his voice and nowhere was it put to better use than in the medium of radio. This honeyed instrument, with which he was able to portray infinite permutations of charm, terror and sinister intent was a godsend to the writers and producers of such series as Escape and Suspense who offered listeners a world of adventure, romance and, increasingly, horror, and with the ingenious use of music and sound effects, conjured up scenarios that would have proved prohibitively expensive in film or television. At the same time they were able to explore their characters’ inner worlds in the same way as novels, and it was this kind of interior monologue at which Price excelled - the sound of a man grappling with his inner demons as much as the supernatural kind.

Rev-Ola
Bonnie Dobson
Bonnie Dobson
CRREV179
Released 06/10/08. Best known as the writer of the apocalyptic '60s folk-rock standard "Morning Dew", Canadian Bonnie Dobson became a mover on the Chicago and New York folk revival scenes and released five albums in the acoustic folk style between 1960 and 1964. She returned to Toronto in 1965 and continued playing the coffee house circuit without recording any more albums. By the time ‘Morning Dew’ was being widely recorded by the likes of Fred Neil & Vince Martin (the first to cover it), Tim Rose, The Grateful Dead, Lulu, The Jeff Beck Group and Episode Six in the late '60s she'd upped sticks and moved to England, home of her songwriter heroes Jackson C Frank, Ralph McTell and Bert Jansch. Signing to RCA Records, she cut a highly-orchestrated version of ‘Morning Dew’ at their suggestion for her self-titled 1969 'comeback' album, along with strong original material such as ‘I'm Your Woman’ and ‘I Got Stung’ and covers of hippy-era folk-rock reliables ‘Everybody's Talkin’’, ‘Let's Get Together’ and ‘You Never Wanted Me’

Features in-depth liner notes with brand new interview material and is re-mastered in the usual mind-blowing Rev-Ola style! A must for all fans of folk-rock, singer-songwriters, female troubadours, orchestrated torch songs and good ole quality late '60s pop… A long-overdue CD repress for this 1969 folk-rock jewel

Gayle McCormick
Gayle McCormick
CRREV265
Released 27/10/08. As girl-about-LA and singer with the wonderful Smith, Gayle McCormick had it all. And here on her wonderful Lambert-Potter produced first album from 1971, you have it too!

In the midst of producing The Four Tops, Evie Sands and Dusty Springfield, Lambert and Potter were on a roll, providing a glossy Hollywood take on Northern Soul which makes even the songs you might think are too well trodden absolutely vital! Possibly the best ever version of ‘Superstar’ too and you know how good that means!

Gene Vincent
Born To Be A Rollin’ Stone The Challenge Sessions 1966-68
CRREV266
Released 27/10/08. By 1966/67, Gene Vincent had already been Europe's top Rock ‘n’ Roll legend for some years. In the US however, he was seen as very much yesterday's man. Escaping the clutches of his notorious manager Don Arden, Gene made tracks to Hollywood into the open arms of 4 Star Records and Music, a happening hive of music.

This CD documents their efforts to reinvent Gene as an LA folk/country rocker, with a slew of beautiful songs almost on a par with The Gosdin Brothers’ seminal The Sounds Of Goodbye or The International Submarine Band's debut. In great voice and expertly backed by LA session giants such as Glen Campbell and The Champs, and generating hits in ‘Bird Doggin’’ and ‘Born To Be A Rollin' Stone’, this collection shows an amazing direction Gene's career could have taken.

Indeed, containing LA proto country rock of the kind that would later lead to classics by The Byrds, Gene Clark and others, this is an amazing collection.

Hurtin' For You Baby / I'm A Lonesome Fugitive / Born To Be A Rolling Stone / Hi Lili, Hi Lo / Poor Man's Prison / Words And Music / Bird Doggin' / I've Got My Eyes On You / Love Is A Bird / Ain't That Too Much / Lonely Street / Am I That Easy To Forget

Lou Christie
Paint America Love
CRREV267
Released 27/10/08. You know, 1971 might just be THE top pop year. A lot of people would probably go for 1966 or '67 or even '77 as the ultimate vintage year for rock and pop but today we're sticking with 1971. 1971 brought us many classics: Carole King's Tapestry, David Bowie's Hunky Dory, Sly & the Family Stone's There's a Riot Goin' On, Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson, Paul McCartney's RAM, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, The Beach Boys' Surf's Up and Runt, The Ballad of Todd Rundgren. But way up near the top of that pile of mighty classics born in 1971 is an album that has almost been forgotten about by one of pop's great overlooked giants. Here at last on CD for the first time is Lou Christie Sacco's majestic “Paint America Love”, originally released on home of the hits Buddah. A masterpiece of some proportions, as Lou collaborated with Twyla "The Gipsy" Herbert and bubblegum maestro Tony Romeo to provide a lush, near-definitive statement of American Pop... a must-have for anyone who has a heart!

Fresh from managing The Yardbirds, Johns Children and co-authoring for Dusty Springfield , and with backing from CBS, SNB picked up on the hip pop world flowing through London at the time.

It is an extraordinary assortment from which we have distilled the most potent exotic, baroque and pop psych elements. All have high production values with the likes of the talented Ian Green as arranger. As you would expect most of the singles are today very rare, and have not been reissued or released on CD. Wayne County & The Electric Chairs
Rock ‘n’ Roll Cleopatra
RPM119
6 October 2008. Not for the faint hearted, the first CD collection of Wayne County tracks, taped during 1978/79. Though hardly Punk rockers, the band thrived amidst the shock and outrage of the time, Wayne's trans-sexual tendencies adding an edge to the proceedings.

Singles such as Fuck Off and Eddie & Sheena are here, along with EP and album cuts. Wayne, who later became Jayne County, chose the songs, and the sleeve notes tell her story in graphic detail. A welcome re-press for this legendary performer.

Only Ones
Live At Shepherds Bush
CRDVD172
Released 27/10/08. The Only Ones were one of the punk era's most underrated bands. The band played guitar rock that sounded deeply indebted to the New York Dolls and other mid-'70s proto-punks. Singing his intelligently crafted pop songs in a semi-tuneful whine of a voice, front-man Peter Perrett was an astute chronicler of the vagaries of modern, dysfunctional love.

Although they split up in 1981 after only three records, the Only Ones legacy, due in large part to their most famous song ‘Another Girl, Another Planet’, became more influential as the years went on. In 2006 Vodafone picked “Another Girl” to soundtrack a national media advertising campaign and the success of the advert led to the band reforming for a 2007 UK tour that was incredibly well received by both fans and critics alike.

“Live At Shepherds Bush” captures the London leg of the tour with a full show from the legendary Shepherds Bush Empire venue, where the band play many of their most famous songs to a packed crowd

The CD booklet features a UK discography and various sleeve notes including a written contribution by lead vocalist Simon Toulson-Clarke. The CD includes 6 bonus tracks, the band's original Cherry Red single ‘Chenko/Valley’ and all of the b/sides from the singles listed above. The b/sides are appearing on CD for the first time. Red Box came to the attention of the world with their debut single "Chenko" on Cherry Red Records in 1983. The band soon signed to WEA Records and the band hit the upper reaches of the charts with their 2nd single ‘Lean On Me’.

The band enjoyed further single chart success and released two albums, “The Circle & The Square” and “Motive”. Red Box should've enjoyed lasting success but the band's output stopped there until the re-recorded version of ‘Lean On Me’ was made available through iTunes by the band in 2007. The band's influence is still evident today with many fan websites created to celebrate the band's music.

Vulcan
ECLEC2079
Released 27/10/08. Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of the album “Vulcan” by the late Chris Wood, founder member of the legendary TRAFFIC and flautist and saxophonist extraordinaire.

Recorded just after the demise of Traffic in 1974, “Vulcan” was begun for Island records but shelved in 1978. The sessions featured contributions from Steve Winwood and members of The Wailers, along with a live recording of Traffic performing the title track in 1974, but due to a change in musical fashion with the advent of Punk, the album failed to see the light of day. Island boss Chris Blackwell returned the tapes to Chris Wood in the late 1970’s.

Following Chris’ untimely death in 1983 the tapes were passed on to his sister, Stephanie. Now, 25 years later, and after three years of research and preparation, Esoteric have pieced together the sessions in co-operation with Stephanie Wood to bring you “Vulcan”.

Cherry Red
Cornelius
Sensuous + Sensurround
CDBRED368
Cherry Red are proud to present a superb CD / DVD deluxe package from one of Japan’s finest recording artists and producers: Cornelius.

This gorgeous release contains not only the Sensuous CD album, but also a bonus DVD that features the individual videos for each of the Sensuous tracks, together with the regular show-closer ‘Sleep Warm’. This positively luxurious double-package is wholly exclusive to Cherry Red and is sure to appeal to his legion of loyal fans.

American music journalists often describe Cornelius's musical style as being similar to Beck’s, whom he acknowledges as an influence along with The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Jesus And mary Chain, Primal Scream and the Brazilian band Kassin+2. The music of Cornelius could be described as experimental and exploratory, and often incorporates dissonant elements alongside more familiar harmonically "pleasing" sounds. This tension, plus his practice of bringing in sounds and samples from mass culture, pure electronic tones, and sounds from nature (such as on his Point album) all lead him to be a unique and undefinable talent.

El
Igor Stravinsky
Octet To Orpheus…The Neo-Classical Stravinsky
ACMEM153CD
Of all the major composers of the 20th century, none was more warmly embraced by the world of rock music than Stravinsky. Along with Edgard Varese, he was the principal influence on the compositions of Frank Zappa, while numerous avant-garde and progressive rock bands - among them Yes, who would take the stage to the accompaniment of The Firebird - proclaimed him their guiding light.

The obvious reasons for this are his pioneering use of powerful and unusual rhythms, his music's lack of sentimentality, its waspish wit, its anti-authoritarianism - not to mention the composer's love of good whisky - all found obvious counterparts in the rock lifestyle, even if his meticulous approach to discipline did not. If history makes Stravinsky sound like a daunting and intimidating musical figure - a composer to be approached with fear and reverence rather than any expectation of pleasure - then the gorgeous music contained here will prove a more than useful corrective.

Bernard Herrmann
Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World
ACMEM154CD
Published in 1932, some 17 years before George Orwell's equally dystopian 1984, Brave New World was prompted by Aldous Huxley¹s visit to the United States and his shock at the all-embracing commercialisation he encountered.

Set in the 26th century, the book depicts a world in which the masses are socially engineered and subconsciously indoctrinated for their roles in society, and kept docile and content by a combination of drugs (Soma), promiscuous sex, synthesised Muzak and mindless entertainment (the Feelies). Solitary pursuits such as reading are discouraged in favour of group activities, while the nuclear family has been replaced by the Hatcheries and Conditioning Centres that control every aspect of the period between artificial conception and childhood.

This extraordinary musical radio production of Huxley’s masterpiece attracted a suitably stellar cast of performers including the author himself in the role of narrator and the great film composer Bernard Hermann. A titan of cinema now remembered for such undisputed masterpieces as Citizen Kane, Psycho and Taxi Driver. Here, his palette was necessarily constrained by budgetary considerations, but he nevertheless deployed his slender resources - organ and percussion instruments - with typical ingenuity.

Brave New World. Original Score Composed and Conducted by Bernard Herrmann / Brave New World - Part One .Narrated by Aldous Huxley. Original Score Composed and Conducted by Bernard Herrmann / 11: Brave New World - Part Two Narrated by Aldous Huxley / Original Score Composed and Conducted by Bernard Herrmann

Henry Mancini
The Versatile Henry Mancini
ACMEM155CD
Henry Mancini’s first album, a languid and vastly superior piece of exotica initially released in 1957 as Driftwood and Dreams re-issued here for the first time on compact disc in both stereo and the original beautiful mono version.

For these historic sessions, Mancini recruited the renowned Brazilian guitarist Laurindo Almeida, to bring a distinctly tropical feel that would have been beyond the reach of even the most seasoned American player and to add a crucial touch of the other-worldly, the soprano Loulie "Lulu" Jean Norman, whose wordless vocals would later achieve global recognition on the theme from Star Trek.

Donald Fagen called Henry Mancini the "High Priest of Hollywood Cool", and this masterful album is full of stylish Mancini motifs that anticipate such future triumphs as Moon River, Baby Elephant Walk, The Days of Wine and Roses, The Pink Panther and The Party.

High quality bonus material includes The Four Freshmen’s exquisite recording Mancini’s What’s It Gonna Be, written for the film Rock, Pretty Baby, the rare Mancini single of instrumental material from the same movie, Hot Rod and Big Band Rock and Roll, and another Hank composition Cha Cha Cha for Gia from Four Girls in Town.

Upon its release in May ’81, the Canadian guitar virtuoso’s sixth studio album charged its way into the U.S. Top 40 and galvanized Pat Travers as a one of the few Rock artists with the ability to alchemically mix Hard Rock guitar histrionics with nagging hooks and instantly sing-able melodies.

Criminally overlooked until now, this ‘lost’ classic album finally gains a long-overdue re-assessment and in so doing, gains a first-ever appearance on CD. The Fool
The Fool
CRREV116
The Fool - Anarchic eccentrics in 1960's Amsterdam and London; designers of many a psychedelic wonder; mainly known for being slagged off in every Beatles book ever written by those who weren't there! But was there more? Oh yes indeed...

The Fool began as a faction of the Amsterdam Provos, the Provocateurs whose Proto-Situationist pranks had Holland in an uproar throughout the 1960's. Their album sleeves for Jimi Hendrix, The Move, And The Incredible String Band among others, remain classics.

And, they made an album! Produced by Graham Nash on the cusp of leaving The Hollies (who The Fool also did sleeves for!) and founding CSN, engineered by Hendrix sound-master Eddie Kramer, the album is a shock! Pictured and airily dismissed in every Beatles book, this is a tour de force of Wyrd Folk ala Incredible String Band and strange twisted visions of pop. A delight long buried under Beatles baggage.

The Rokes
Let’s Live For Today: The Rokes In English 1966-68
CRREV262
The Rokes were Brits who went to Italy in 1963 and became one of the biggest bands in the land for the rest of the decade. They chalked up numerous Italian language hits and recorded four albums as well as becoming an enormous live draw and TV favourites.

However, scattered across those albums were a number of English language songs that somehow came off sounding like a Euro-tinged blend of The Beatles, Hollies, Kinks and Pretty Things. In ’67, The Rokes released the first English language version of ‘Let’s Live For Today’, a song they’d already cut in Italian. It went on to become a huge US hit in the hands of The Grass Roots and was covered by scores of bands.

Rollicking beat gems like ‘No No No’ and ‘Ride On’ slowly morphed into more sophisticated fayre such as the sitar-drenched ‘Ripe Apples’ and the sinister psychedelic rocker ‘When The Wind Arises’, both of which were released in the UK in a belated attempt to break them here.

Here, for the first time on CD, are virtually all of The Rokes’ English language recordings from 1966 to 1968.

The Peppermint Rainbow
Will You Be Staying After Sunday?
CRREV263
Baltimore quintet the peppermint rainbow scored an US top 10 hit in 1969 with the super-groovy ‘Will You Be Staying After Sunday’.

Produced by ‘Green Tambourine’ hit maker Paul Leka, the album that followed featured 10 more slices of juicy bubblegum pop including a second top 10 smash, ‘Don’t Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael’.

The band cut two further singles – both added here – but by late ’69 it was all over as the sound of love faded from the airwaves.

Will You Be Staying After Sunday / If We Can Make It To Monday / And I’ll Be There / Run Like The Devil / Jamais / Don’t Wake Me Up In The Morning, Michael / Walking In Different Circles / Sierra (Chasin’ My Dream) / Green Tambourine / Rosemary / I Found Out I Was A Woman / Bonus Tracks: You’re The Sound Of Love / Good Morning Means Goodbye / Don’t Love Me Unless It’s Forever

The Lemon Pipers
Love Beads And Meditation
CRREV264
The undisputed kings of bubblegum psych are welcomed at Rev-Ola like old, old friends. It’s a pleasure chaps.

‘Green Tambourine’; massive hit everywhere; covered by 1001 artists; dyed-in-the-wool classic. ‘Rice Is Nice’, ‘Jelly Jungle’, those sweet and soft hits just kept coming. But behind the grins of Ohio’s happy hippie hit makers was a down and dirty psychedelic rock band, a caged beast straining to get out. Just listen to the likes of ‘Fifty Year Void’, ‘No Help From Me’ and the eardrum-frying ‘Through With You’ for proof.

Love Beads And Meditation combines their two albums, Green Tambourine and Jungle Marmalade, which mashed up those Paul Leka-helmed soft pop bubblegum gems (listen to ‘Rainbow Tree’ and ‘Love Beads And Meditation’ and try not to smile – it’s impossible!) with the band’s growling rock tendencies and confused the hell out of everybody.

Forty years later it’s easier to take them at face value and enjoy them for what they are – great late ‘60s pop records.

Detroit, Michigan in the late 1960's played host to a rock explosion of talent with, at the top of the pile, the MC5 and their rivals the SRC.

Rising at the same time as the Stooges, Grandfunk Railroad, Bob Seger and the Amboy Dukes. The SRC - standing for Scott Richards Case - Scott Richardson being the lead singer, began, like the MC5, by playing their version of UK R&B, before supplanting their own take on the music, characterising it with doomy organ, anglicised vocals and searing bursts of stun-guitar drenched in sustained feedback.

Don Covay
Super Dude~ The Mercury Years Vol 1
RPMSH292
The name of Don Covay may be familiar from major hits Mercy, Mercy and See Saw from the golden age of mid-1960s Atlantic Records, but as that label moved towards the rock market in the early 70's, Covay moved on to continue recording his distinctive style of story-line soul songs; first with a solitary LP for Janus in 1970, followed by two LPs for Mercury, released in 1973 and 1974, and each containing a typical mixture of gospel influenced soul ballads and chunky lyrical funk items.

First up on Shout is the 1973 LP, Super Dude 1, reissued in its entirety, with (as a bonus for the collectors) the first tracks from the Janus LP. Super Dude 1 was a landmark for Don Covay, released as a concept-album and gaining both critical approval and healthy sales.

Les Reed
Original SoundtracksThe Girl On A Motorcycle / Les Bicyclettes De Belsize
RETRO840
.At the top of his game in 1968/1969, Reed had written very many pop hits and was extending into movie scores ( later progressing further into stage musicals ).

The music in Girl On A Motorcycle, the 1968 film with Marianne Faithfull and Alain Delon, is an intriguing period mix of Hammond organ grooves, quasi -classical interludes, psychedelic passages and avant garde incidentals.

Some structures and production sounds can be traced through to the following year’s Les Bicyclettes De Belsize starring Judy Huxtable and Anthony May, although the music is more pastoral pop ballad. The latter film is also more laid back charming as
opposed to the formers tense and edgy atmosphere, and naturally these qualities are reflected in both soundtracks.

The Flirtations
Sounds Like The Flirtations
RETRO839
Originally formed in 1962 in Alabama, a three-vocalist line up (Ernestine Pearce, Shirley Pearce, Vie Billups) of R&B group The Flirtations relocated to the UK in 1968 where they picked up with producer Wayne Bickerton and writer Tony Waddington, and a deal with Decca. They recorded one LP (Sounds Like...) in 1969 plus six singles released through the Deram imprint (1968-1971).

All are included here, plus input from Vie Billups aka Pearly Gates who has latterly reformed the troupe for live shows. Pearly will be helping to promote the release with on going radio interviews and appearances.

Contains the original source for a recent KFC ad, namely their signature tune Nothing But A Heartache, a massive Northern Soul track: described as a dense, dynamic, earth-shattering melodrama. The other singles and tracks are no less in their impassioned soulful delivery, with Someone Out There continuing to get exposure on Euro radio and TV.
This is the first time the LP has been reissued, and legitimately released on CD.

Bikes ‘N’ Leather ~ Rockin’ At The Ace
CRPIE003
This is a Rockabilly/Rock n Roll/Psychobilly compilation themed around Motorcycles and the legendary Ace Café. The Ace cafe has been the subject of many TV documentaries and its place in Rock ‘n’ Roll history as one of London’s most iconic venues is assured.

It is one of the original biker/rocker/ton-up haunts of the 50’s and 60’s. The Ace is even regularly used as a TV location where Car shows are broadcast from and was even the set for a 60’s cult biker film (The Leather Boys). Aside from being a café, the Ace is also a regular music venue and they also hold massive bike events on the south coast. This release celebrates the 70th anniversary building and will attract a lot of publicity. The CD contains 20 songs all related to bikers / motorcycles and the Ace itself is mentioned in many songs. It’s the ultimate biker CD but will also appeal to Rock n Rollers/Rockabillies/Psychobillies.

Cherry Red DVDs
Julian Cope
Copeulation
PPCR011
Issued for the first time as a DVD collection, the videos of Julian Cope and Teardrop Explodes display some seminal moments of genius and English pop/rock history.

This collection tracks ten years in the life of Julian Cope, through times when he burnt out, rose again, burnt out, and then rose again – showing why he got the epithet “flawed genius”. Beginning with his work as part of legendary UK rock band The Teardrop Explodes and continuing onto his highly successful solo career – the DVD charts the extraordinary musical and personal journey that Cope experienced during the period.

Many believe that he was a weirdo pretending to be normal – but the theory of a normal guy pretending to be sub-normal and displaying genius is more than borne out by the contents of this DVD.

Reward / Colours Fly Away / Treason / Sleeping Gas / Greatness And Perfection Of Love / Laughing Boy / Reynard The Fox / World Shut Your Mouth / Trampoline / Eve’s Volcano / Charlotte Anne / 5 0’clock World / China Doll / Spacehopper.

Traffic
Live At Santa Monica
PPCR019
In 1967 Steve Winwood decided to leave the Spencer Davis Group – with whom he had enjoyed considerable worldwide success – and form his own band – the result was Traffic.

This new multi-talented group gained international success in the late 1960s and early 1970s, particularly in the USA where they attracted a large following. In Britain, they are remembered mostly for some memorable and groundbreaking singles and albums that scored high chart placings during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

It is without doubt fortunate that Island and Columbia filmed Traffic at the 3000 seat Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972, when the band had just released their definitive album ‘John Barleycorn Must Die’.

A beautifully shot concert film, there are endless camera angles and close-ups of performers from virtually every perspective imaginable – with great shots of band members Steve Winwood, Chris Wood, Rebop Kwakubaah and Jim Capaldi.
