A successful act in their home land, they came to international attention when they signed to Emerson, Lake and Palmer’s label Manticore in 1973. In 1974 the band toured the United States and Canada to great acclaim, Recording material at concerts in Toronto and New York City. The following year edited highlights were released by Manticore as the live album cook.

The last full album SAW began before Matt Aitken's departure from the production team, "Boy Krazy" features the 1993 US Top 20 hit That's What Love Can Do and the follow-up Good TimesWith Bad Boys (#59 US), together with the 1992 UK single, All You Have To Do. Digitally re-mastered direct from the original PWL master tapes, this Special Edition features no less than ten exclusive bonus tracks. Originally omitted from the album but recently discovered in the PWL archive, two superb SAW tracks, Exception To The Rule and I ll Never Get Another Chance Like This, are given their first-ever CD release here. Also included are sought-after full-length 12" mixes and original versions of several trackswhich showcase Boy Krazy s evolving sound over the two years during which the album was recorded.

The extensive CD booklet includes full lyrics, additional and previously unseen photos, a picture discography, brand new sleeve notes and exclusive contributions from members of the group. Boy Krazy were Kimberly Blake, Johnna Lee Cummings, Josselyne Jones and Ruth Ann Roberts. Together with original member Renee Veneziale, they formed the group in New York in 1989 and signed with PWL the following year. When first issued in the UK in 1991, That's What Love Can Do failed to enter the Top 75, but 18 months later it was play-listed by a Denver radio station and soon became a runaway airplay hit across the US. As a result, the single was reissued internationally and work on the album finally completed at PWL. Despite scoring two US hits, Boy Krazy split up later in 1993.

Hailing from Italy, Ivana Spagna with her brother Theo and respected Italian producer Larry Pignagoli penned a succession of hit singles across Europe during the mid to late 80's. The feature of this reissue Dedicated To The Moon was Spagna's debut album, released in 1987. After a spell of living in California, Spagna returned to Europe in 1993 and continued her successful career across mainland Europe. Her combined album and single sales are reputedly in excess of 10 million units to date.

Curiosity Killed The Cat fronted by the charismatic Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot enjoyed their first hit with Down To Earth in December of 1986. With their James Dean looks, vibrant street energy and cutting edge soul pop sound it seemed for a while as if Curiosity Killed the Cat may have possessed, a perfect recipe for success in the late eighties pop market.

Initially the band were labelled as a boy band but this ignores the band's undoubted musical backbone and talent. Hit singles were to follow as were two successful albums, their musical and commercial high point being their debut album and the focus of this reissue Keep Your Distance.

From the early fifties, with the onset of international air travel, Exotica became a massively popular musical trend; making it possible for middleclass Americans to simulate an authentic travelogue experience - to India, Africa, Cuba, or the South Seas - in the comfort of their suburban homes.

This public looked to Les Baxter, Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Yma Sumac, Korla Pandit or Robert Drasnin to provide (in contrast to the prevailing rock and roll scene) a mystical combination of Oriental, African and Latin sounds, decorated with natural effects gathered from the sea, sky and forest.

Exotic music was originally conceived with Ravel's Bolero and Debussy¹s Pagodes. It left the classical world and entered pop through Les Baxter. In 1950 he created Voice of the Xtabay with four octave Peruvian singer Yma Sumac and a year later released the seminal work of exotica, his tone poem Ritual of the Savage (Le Sacre Du Sauvage).

From the late forties, the genres two leading exponents have been the French composers Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry. If their compositions seem quaint to today s ears, in 1948, their bizarre, brittle, often beautiful, soundscapes were revolutionary. Schaeffer and Henry began their revolt by recording sounds from the natural world onto phonograph discs, altering them through the primitive means available, and creating an alarming music that they dubbed musique concrete Schaeffer and Henry created audio portraits for the end of themachine age and the beginning of the electronic age that burst with mechanical noises, orchestral hits, trains, and text-sound babble.

Doors open and close on indecipherable conversations; engines start, stop and transform into screams and moans; disembodied pianists jam with mouth noise rhythm sections. Now, almost 60 years later, the scratches on the records they used give this vanguard work a charming, antique quality. Their methods may seem archaic by contemporary standards, but the resulting music is powerfully evocative by any standards.

On these the first two of his solo records Di'anno continues with the aggressive NWOBHM sound he created with Maiden on his first album without Harris and Co. 'Fighting Back' features tons of OTT speed metal rockers. Songs like Warchild and the epic The Land God Gave To Cain are some of the finest heavy metal songs Di'anno has ever done. Aswith many other NWOBHM bands, some of the guitar work emulates Thin Lizzy axe attack.

The second album also included on this set is more commercial than the band's debut, Despite this, the band just doesn't seem to be able to get away from the club sound and break out with a bigger sound like Maiden’s "Piece of Mind" or Priest s "Screaming for Vengeance." Di'Anno's gritty voice sounds as strong as ever.

The album diverged from earlier releases with a collection of subtly darker and more involved tracks that still offer the classic sound of the Wildhearts,chunky riffage and catchy melodies. The band bring on the usual pounding rock anthems you know and love them for, with tracks such as I Wanna Go Where The People Go, Just In Lust and Nita Nitro. Their energy seems to have tripled with these riff heavy rock numbers. Complementing these tracks by the sheer contrast are the slower, quieter songs such as Jonesing For Jones, Be My Drug and In Lilly’s Garden.

The New Birth name was an umbrella for all manner of artists. In 1970 the pair moved from Detroit to Louisville and signed up The Nite-Liters (who would have one or two hits of their own), The Gentlemen And I, The Mint Juleps and Duet. The logic was that these four acts would tour together, and then as a show finale, all of them would be onstage performing as New Birth. This quickly developed into a band featuring The Nite-Liters (who had eight members), The Mint Juleps (featuring four women), plus The Now Sound (four men) and one additional singer, namely Allen Frey. A deal was done with RCA Records, and the band released a self-titled album in 1971. The Mint Juleps were dropped from the project and at this time, New Birth actually had 12 members and it was this line-up that recorded the 1972 album 'Ain't No Big Thing But It's Growing'.

The arrival of Ann Bogan (previously from the hit group Marvelettes) finally helped to shape the band's sound.1972's 'Coming Together' (which was to be Bogan's only album with New Birth); was a far more cohesive and decisive release reaching number 40 on the R&B charts.

'Nirvana', is perhaps the finest album from the Charles Lloyd Quartet following on from 'Discovery! His band at the time was a spread of true giants. On piano there was Keith Jarrett, on bass there was Ron McClure and drums one Jack De Johnette. It was an impressive conglomeration and counterbalance of ability. But it was most decidedly led by Lloyd.

While the Charles Lloyd Quartet had more significant commercial success with other albums, there is a strong case to be made that they were never better than here. This is inventive, accessible, yet also has a depth and range that proved it could appeal to the traditionalists while at the same time attracting a younger audience, one that didn't want to hear old school jazz, but wanted something that allowed them to get 'high' on the music. This was it.

After LaBelle called it quits in 1976. Hendryx released her self-titled debut record, which was an amazingly strong amalgam of soul and hard rock.

Nona worked with Talking Heads as back-up singer and fell in with a hip crowd of musicians and her association with David Byrne led to her working with Bill Laswell who helped her put together her second solo album. BABY SISTER was her first solo album, produced by Richard Perry and was released on his Planet label in 1983 a few months before the Pointer Sisters multi-platinum album Break Out. It is widely known as the album where Perry perfected the R&B/Dance sound that would soon give the Pointer Sisters the biggest hits of their career Automatic and Jump.

The album became an R&B chart hit and spun off the hit single, Ready For Some Action (Co-Produced by Norman Whitfield - R&B#28) as well two popular Motown covers, Don't Mess With Bill and I'm Ready For Love and New Love, True Love, co-written with Anita Pointer. The Pointer Sisters sang back up on four of the album's tracks.

Features a bonus track and interviews with Anita and Ruth Pointer as well as many of the musicians who played on the album. Since June's untimely death in 2006, the Pointer Sisters huge international fan base have been campaigning to get Baby Sister on CD. It is by far one of BBR's most requested albums.

The inclusion of their theme song I’m Just a Mops (heard here) on Rhino’s Nuggets II box set confirmed that Cope was right. Released originally in Japan in April 1968, The Mops debut album Psychedelic Sounds In Japan was the country s first self-declared psychedelic record. Even though they sported kaftans, beads and Sergeant Pepper jackets, The Mopswere as Cope said too tough, too jagged to be true flower people.

Original songs like I’m Just A Mops were fuzz guitar driven stompers that revealed The Mops were at heart garage punkers. In their hands, on Kienai Omoi, even the sitar sounded deranged.

In thrall to the San Francisco sound their manager had visited Haight Ashbury and brought the first Jefferson Airplane album back to Japan they recorded unhinged covers of The Airplane s Somebody To Love and White Rabbit for Psychedelic Sounds In Japan. They also loved The Animals their takes of San Francisco Nights and Inside Looking Out Are testaments to The Mops wildness.

Their link with the Beatles was not so surprising however given that they were picked up as artists by producer George Martin, who produced the majority of their recordings for his Air Studios set up, during a peak period between 1965 and 1968. Having chalked up 11 UK Top 20 singles in just over two years there was no doubting that in the early part of the 70's there were very few more successful British groups than Mud. Mud even enjoyed success around the world especially in Germany where they enjoyed Top 10 chart success as well.

However, nearly all of their hits had been written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman (also responsible for the likes of Suzi Quatro, Smokie and Sweet) and though Mud had written many of the B-sides, by mid '75 they felt confident enough in their own ability to 'go it alone' and so dispensed with the service of Chinn and Chapman. Formed when they were mostly in their teens, Slowdive was initially lumped in with the remainder of the early' 90s British shoegaze scene; Slowdive's later releases extended upon the likes of the Cocteau Twins and the more atmospheric sides of post-punk, and they closed out their career with an excellent and misunderstood ambient LP.

Just for a Day is the debut album by the band Slowdive, released on September 2, 1991. It was recorded at Courtyard Studios in Abingdon, Oxfordshire formally known as Georgetown Studios. The album peaked at #3 in the UK Indie charts. Upon its release, copies of the album were labeled with a sticker that read "like a mind altering substance, without the risk."

The desire to find new sounds and to abandon the traditional role of the composer as a controlling authority were hallmarks of John Cage’s career and made him at once a revered and reviled figure in modern music. Composer, philospher, poet, graphic artist and mycologist (authority on mushrooms), the pioneering Cage used carefully structured segments of time and filled them with sound materials derived by chance processes such as the rolling of a dice or the use of the I Ching. In perhaps the ultimate and most outrageous - statement of the aesthetic, he wrote 4 33, a piece involving total silence on the part of the performer, into which the random sounds of the world enter.

John Cage s legacy extends far beyond the world of contemporary classical music. After him, no one could look at a painting, a book, or a person without wondering how they might sound if you listened closely.

They made their first recordings for Leiber & Stoller's Red Bird label, but soon changed their name to the Insiders and signed with RCA. Henderson recorded and toured with a plethora of legends, including Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and Marvin Gaye. He was one of the most indemand bassist on the Motown roster. It was with Miles Davis that Henderson got the chance to really stretch out, proving himself to be among the most adept musicians in the world.

Henderson had left the Davis domain and the same year become involved with producer/drummer Norman Connors' album 'Saturday Night Special'; he was the featured vocalist on the hit 'You Are My Starship'.All of this gave Henderson the reputation and confidence to set out on his own. It was to prove a very successful journey, as the man piled up a collection of hit singles and albums.

The Skill and sincerity with which he sings make him an outstanding performer in any number he undertakes, whether it is ballads, blues or hymns. Earl Scruggs was also born into a musically inclined family. Earl s father, who died when Earl was only four years old, was also a banjoist. Inspired by his father, Earl managed to play tunes on his banjo before he was five years old. At the age of ten, he developed a unique style of playing the banjo with three fingers which is known nationally as Scruggs-Style Picking. In 1945, when he first came to Nashville, he dazzled audiences with this new, hard- driving, three-fingered technique. It was this artistry that gave life to a band style called Bluegrass. One music critic has compared Scruggs-Style Picking to Paganini’s dazzling violin style.

They formed the Foggy Mountain Boys and brought bluegrass to international prominence. Hard Travellin features The Ballad Of Jed Clampett (theme song from the hit TV series The Beverley Hillbillies ) it was the first bluegrass song to reach #1 in the Country Music Charts. They were elected to the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1985.
