Freedom Is Frightening eclec2087 Released 27/10/08. Stomu Yamashta is a master percussionist who studied Jazz drumming at Berklee School of Jazz. In the 1970’s he recorded a string of innovative albums for Island records fusing his percussion talents with jazz, electronic and classical music. “Freedom Is Frightening” features a fine band, including Soft Machine bass guitarist Hugh Hopper and guitarist Gary Boyle. It was a fine achievement which propelled Yamashta to a wider audience which would eventually lead to his acclaimed Go albums featuring collaborators Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve, Klaus Schulze. Never before released on CD, this Esoteric reissue has been re-mastered from the original master tapes and fully restores the original vinyl artwork and continues Esoteric’s series of Yamashta’s work for Island Records

Go - Live From Paris eclec2086 Released 27/10/08. The album “Go”, released in April 1976, was a fine achievement and Yamashta assembled a band featuring collaborators Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve, Klaus Schulze and Al Di Miola to deliver a series of stunning concerts. The Parisian concert was captured by Island Records and was released as “Go Live From Paris” in 1977.

Floating Music eclec2084 Stomu Yamashta’s first island album, “Floating Music” was recorded with the band come to the edge and gains it’s first European CD release with this reissue. ‘Poker Dice’ and ‘One Way’ were for used by Nicholas Roeg in the soundtrack of the David Bowie film the Man Who Fell to Earth.

One By One (East Wind) eclec2083 Originally released in 1974 On Island Records, “One By One” was the soundtrack to the racing movie, ‘One By One’, directed by Claude du Boc and released in 1975. This Esoteric Recordings reissue marks the album’s debut on CD and has been re-mastered from the original master tapes.

The Man From The East eclec2082 Originally released in 1973 for Island Records, “The Man from the East” was the soundtrack to a fascinating theatre-piece Yamashta presented in Paris and London in 1972. Several of these songs (‘Poker Dice’, ‘One Way’, ‘Memory of Hiroshima’) appeared on the film soundtrack of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) and have since attained mythical status among fans.

His music has been used by the Royal Ballet.Originally released in April 1976, “Go” is perhaps Yamashta’s finest achievement and also featured collaborators Steve Winwood and Michael Shrieve along with artists such as Klaus Schulze and ex-Traffic and future Can bassist Rosko Gee.
