Little Girl: The Best Of. cdmred254 "Little Girl" represents the first ever compilation of the new wave power pop group The Banned, who scored a hit in 1978 with the hit single of the same name. The single was a cover of a US garage punk record by Syndicate of Sound and was part of the set by The Banned at the time which included other 60's Rock /R&B songs alongside originals, sounding somewhere between The Flamin' Groovies and The Records. As a group the Banned began in 1975, called Precious Little, breaking out of Croydon to tour extensively, they then changed their name and in keeping with the D.I.Y. times, releasing Little Girl on their own label Can't Eat Records. Picked up by EMI label Harvest in 1978 the single hit the charts, and was backed with a commentary of the New York new wave scene called CPGJ's. The Banned sound hardened around this time moving more into Jam territory with some recordings made for Chrysalis in 1979. Completing the first stage of the groups career they reverted to their original name for another indie single "Give It To Me Now" in 1981 - now a collectable 7". We complete our "Best Of" with two tracks from The Retros, the group that The Banned later became and which still tour today. The line up has varying guests including on some shows the Only Ones guitarist John Perry.
